Farmers Fishers Bakers
Founding Farmers had me when they joined the DC Market in …with their fried green tomatoes. Now their sister restaurant Farmers Fishers Bakers has once again stolen my heart with an array of my favorite things. Though the solid comfort food menu seems as though it should be the thing I enjoyed most about Farmers Fishers Bakers, it was the décor that truly stole the show. From the large American flag in the bakery studio to the animal sculptures in the restaurant, Farmers Fishers Bakers has brought in an eclectic mix of aesthetics for the 9,500 square foot waterfront space. The DC-based firm GrizForm Design is the mastermind behind the restaurants architecture and interior design space at Farmers Fishers and Bakers.
The food rose to my expectations from the Founding Farmers family with the Hot Maryland Crab Dip and the brick oven pretzels leading the pack as strong beginners. Though it adds sophistication to the décor, the sushi bar did not offer anything outside the norm found in the District. As you will find with the décor, Farmers Fishers Bakers is not afraid to play with various concepts in a confined space. The Honey Pot Fried chicken is a glaring example of how crafty they are in the kitchen. Crispy fried chicken on top of green peas confit and grits with a drizzle of honey circling the plate is just what this town needed. Honey is the new dish accessory, it adds that wow factor.
If the interior décor and food do not captivate your attention, the outdoor patio will do the trick. The ice skating rink and views of the Potomac River make Farmers Fishers Bakers one of the best spots to people watch and have drinks in the city. I personally defer to the interior, which has so much to take in and could literally take you two to three visits to get a good look at everything. It is a circus for my brain…and my palate. I like.
