Another 5 Reasons To Be Out & About Over the Next 5 Days
1. So big day this Saturday, June 9: The race for the Triple Crown! Food and drinks are in order. The Light Horse Restaurant will have live music starting right after the race, $5 Belmont Breezes all day long, $4 for any of their Belgian Trippels and $4 Crown Royal drinks. Order a “Triple Crown” and get any Trippel and a shot of Crown for $6. Belgian Trippels will be La Fin du Monde (Unibroue), New Belgium Trippel (the makers of Fat Tire), Gulden Draak and they’ll have Green Flash Trippel on draft. With the race going live on all 10 HD TV’s and the excitement that surrounds the Race for the Triple Crown, it’s hard to beat a little early evening partying at The Light Horse. When: Saturday, June 9, 2012, 6:30 pm. Cheers!
2. The Maryland Wineries Association is pairing up with local restaurants and wine shops to celebrate the second annual “Maryland Wine Week” from June 8-17, 2012. During Maryland Wine Week, restaurants and wine shops will host a range of events themed around Maryland wine, including wine maker dinners, tastings, wine flights, and other special offers. Maryland residents and wine lovers can keep up to date on the goings-on of Maryland Wine Week by visiting Maryland Wine Week and following @MDwineweek on Twitter.
3. It’s been ages since I last visited Taylor Gourmet, but on a day like yesterday a cold cut was necessary. Additionally, President Obama visited Taylor Gourmet a couple weeks ago for a sandwich so I definitely had to go reacclimate myself with the menu. The 9th Street hoagie was my 12″ of choice accompanied by Herr’s Dill Pickle flavored potato chips and Boylan’s Black Cherry soda. Perfect fix on an 80 degree day in DC. Why this should be your next stop before you kick off this five day stint of events? Taylor is tripling point values through Sunday, June 10 for all members of My Loyal Family. More info here.
4. Dallas is back! If you remember anything about the 80’s, it’s the significance of the saga, Dallas, and how it infiltrated the American TV screen for 13 years. Hill Country BBQ is doing their part in welcoming the show back to the American TV set. The restaurant invites guests to enjoy the return of the Texas soap opera – to trash talk & to watch on the big screen – as they watch the two-hour premiere of TNT’s Dallas. The kitchen will also be open for those who wish to eat a “late” dinner and late night happy hour drink specials will start an hour early (9 PM). Cowboy hats, shoulder pads and rhinestones are optional. I totally encourage this attire because Bobby, JR & Sue Ellen are back on TV and we can’t help but get excited to return to Southfork! When: Wednesday, June 13 – 9 to 11 PM. More info here.
5. The James Beard Foundation’s 2012 Rising Star Chef of the Year, pastry chef Christina Tosi will be joined by Baltimore’s Chris Ford, recently named Food & Wine’s People’s Best New Pastry Chef, and five of their peers at the first ever Cocktails and Confections DC. The rooftop reception will feature sweet delights and cocktail concoctions with stunning views of the U.S. Capitol and National Mall (I’ll be there!). All proceeds support Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign, a national effort to end childhood hunger in America (Yes!). The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $125 and are available here.
