Etiquette Tuesday: Too Many Cooks, Part II
I am touchy about my kitchen space. The kitchen is truly my favorite part of the house and I like to spend that time in there alone when there are pots burning on the stove. Mostly because I am in a zone when I get in the kitchen, it’s my therapy. Besides cooking the food as I go in my head (*I know that may sound weird but I do it…), I am reflecting on the issues of the day and sorting through them. Having a third party in there with me is like throwing another conversation in my head that is not necessarily needed at that time. This week’s etiquette tip focuses on too many cooks in the kitchen, part two (*I wrote about this around the holidays, now I’m back to reiterate my point).
Now there are times when you have guests over and they are in the kitchen having random conversation with you but it’s the unnecessary chef assistant that I am talking about this week. You know this person: “You’re putting garlic in that?? I use onions in mines…, You don’t clean up as you cook?? Let me get this stuff out of here…” Annoying. Absolutely annoying. This person provides the unsolicited advice that we all know I love (*sarcasm*) on your cooking as you’re trying to make your way around your kitchen.
Now it is totally understood that some people just want to help out but like one of my readers stated long ago once I state “No, thank you”, you should be seated and enjoying the beverage I should’ve provided to you by this point. Think of the kitchen as that persons time to have the spotlight. Whether the performance is good or bad, they still deserve their time on the stage, don’t they?
