OUT & ABOUT

The top of my week began with filet mignon and mashed potatoes. Good way to kick things off. The closing of this years Take a Bite Out of Breast Cancer in conjunction with Pink Jams was the reason myself and over 20 other area bloggers came together at The Capital Grille in D.C. The restaurant is known for its steaks and we had the opportunity to try its 10 oz. filet mignon, dry aged sirloin and the porcini rubbed Delmonico. Paired with creamy lumps of mashed potatoes and roasted mushrooms, they almost had to roll me out of the restaurant after finishing my steak. A big thank you goes to Dining in DC and Pink Jams for orchestrating such an amazing fundraiser.

This week I also had the opportunity to visit Seasons Restaurant before they begin they’re huge renovation project.  From the end of December through February, the restaurant will embark on a $1 million project that includes a revamped outdoor patio space, wall-to-wall glass dividers and a new menu.  The space will be used to entertain large parties i.e. corporate holiday parties, receptions, etc.  As for the new menu, the seafood pot pie is a must when you make your selections.  Large chunks of lobster and crab dipped in a light tomato based filling and topped off with a phyllo crust makes this pot pie jump out of the ordinary.

Since construction plans are in full effect, everything was construction themed including the cement colored ice cream that tastes exactly like french vanilla.  Excited for the new space, I do hope they will add these new items to their brunch menu because everyone in D.C. needs to taste this pot pie.

This week the food bloggers made their way to Hill Country BBQ for the monthly happy hour. Hill Country had a pleasant surprise for us when we got there: Thanksgiving came early! A turkey carving station with stuffing, gravy and pecan pie greeted us upon entering the Boot Bar (*totally trips me out everytime I’m here that this spot used to be Lifestyle’s…#randomDCfact). I honestly could have ordered 10 of those pecan pies to go alongside a giant tub of the Blue Bell ice cream it was served with. Thanks to the restaurant for letting us in on their Thanksgiving dressings that they will offer on their Thanksgiving takeout menu. If you go the takeout route this year, do, I repeat, DO get two of those pecan pies, they are truly that good.
