Etiquette Tuesday: Just Gross

On this Etiquette Tuesday, have I got a pet peeve of mines for you??: Coughing and touching the food.  Disgusting. No home training.I could think of a few uglier things to say about the person I recently saw do this but I’ll leave those phrases for after-dark conversations.  How can a person think it is OK to cough in their hands and immediately reach over to the community/appetizer plate?!? Someone who clearly has not read my blog.  Or someone who has lived in the wilderness amongst animals for the past some odd years.  You don’t even need to be a medical assistant to know these basics.

All I can say is Gross to this behavior.  You should never touch food after having taken a good sneeze or cough in your hands without washing them.  This is a simple courtesy to the people who may have wanted a piece of the warm fresh bread but now that you have stuck your spitty, germy hands in for a share, they decide not to take a cut.  The most surprising thing about this situation was that this person was well over the drinking age, which I know some of you are thinking “a person should know this past the age of 4”.  The polite thing to do is excuse yourself, wash your hands and return to the table for a slab of that bread.  The other solution is to pass on the bread/bruschetta/whatever, if your sneeze/cough is that bad, maybe you should be tending to that instead of some bread, I’m sure bread will not cure the cough.

Again people, be courteous and wash your hands!! *or at least carry some hand sanitizer…*
