World Tour: Polo In My Backyard
Located deep in the rich mountains of Kolkata in West Bengal is the Calcutta Polo Club. The Calcutta Polo Club only came across my path when I decided to attend a local polo competition and wanted to know the origins of the game. The Calcutta Polo Club is the oldest polo club in the world and I will only see it if I get a dirt cheap airline ticket to visit the acclaimed play ground. Lucky for me, the surrounding District area never fails me and the USPA Hall of Fame Cup will be held here this September at the The Plains in Virginia.
Why the sudden interest in a sport I have never thought twice about watching?? Well, the event is offering some pretty enticing ticket options with wine tasting of over 200 wineries and polo tickets going for $35 (*total price). Yeah, it sounds like I’ll be here. From the visuals I’ve seen on television and read about the sport, wine matches perfectly with polo as does beer with baseball. Big floppy hats, bright sundresses and a pair of my Jackie O shades come to mind when thinking of the right wardrobe. The invite also boasts “fancy food”, fine art and gourmet cuisine prepared by the area’s best chefs.
With no plans of boarding United Airlines in sight, a quick trip down 95 sounds appealing especially where it involves local wineries and my best attire. Details on the event can be found here.
