Drinks on Me

After the week I’ve had, drinks are definitely in order. Lucky for me, I live in a city that maintains a plethora of pubs, artisan cocktails and specially imported liquor to quench my thirst. Here’s a quick list to get your drink on this weekend:

  • Since the temperatures have also ushered in my yearly seasonal depression, drinking in-house might not be a bad idea. Diep 9 Genever would be my top choice. The official national spirit of Belgium has made its way to the District (*its first location in the U.S.) with flavors such as Passion Fruit, Chocolate and Red Currant. Why is this the top pick? Well, all I have to do is add a little ice to my cocktail shaker, shake it up and like magic I a have a cocktail filled with all the ingredients of a good night: 20% alcohol, natural fruit/cream flavors and simplicity. Done and done.
  • Crackle Bar has opened above Tackle Box in Georgetown. All the fried seafood and oysters to fill your desires alongside Margaritas. Rumor has it the happy hour (*5 pm-7 pm) deals include $1 oysters and tomato-chipotle hot wings and $2 Margarita’s. If this is true, this sounds like my first stop…
  • Next Wednesday (*January 26, 2011) from 6 pm-8 pm, the Rooftop Terrace Restaurant is hosting Champagne and Everything Bubbly. Sommelier John Coco will dissect the fact/fiction behind featured champagnes such as Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot. For $40 a pop, you get tastes of the bubbly stuff and hors d’oeuvres courtesy Executive Chef Joe Gurner. Contact (202) 416-8555 for ticket info
  • Local 16 has a round up of warm drinks to make you want to leave your house in 30º weather: the Ski Lift (*Coconut Rum, Peach and Hot Chocolate), Café l’Orange (*Grand Marnier, Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur and Coffee) and Cookies and Cream (*Amaretto, Crème de Menthe, Baileys and Coffee).
  • The Dirty Martini. This has become a girlfriends favorite. Sexy, trendy and potent…and you do know I’m talking about the drinks?? Yeah, The Vesper should have a warning label attached…after one, if you can make it through one, all tension should be released. Fun bar bites help to soak up the alcohol: Stick with the DM Signature Fries Sampler, the eggplant fries raise the bar on the typical truffle fries.

Cheers!

I read about Local 16’s cocktails earlier. Yum!

Hell’s Pact is a sweeter (and almost as strong!) alternative to the Vesper at Dirty Martini.. I was feeling no pain after one of those!
