Flavored Nut Butter Is Something You Should Try

People from other countries tend to think of some American food as weird. I mean, the famous chicken and waffles plate of the South is pretty good don’t you think? What’s better than having a plate of your favorite Southern fried chicken and freshly-made waffles topped with maple syrup? Unsurprisingly, other countries don‘t share the same sentiments about it. If anything, they find the combination a little too disturbing.

Another popular American treat that other nations seem to find a little odd is the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Check it out here. Admit it; this here is one of your guilty pleasures too. This delicacy is a simple dish that can be whipped up in the nick of time. It’s so simple to make that even a child can prepare it for themselves. What you do is you take two slices of white bread, spread peanut butter on one slice and jelly on the other, then you smash the two spreads together and you’ve got yourself a sandwich filled with chewy, grainy, and gooey goodness!

Now that I actually said that out loud I kind of get why people are a little weirded out with the whole combination. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that it is oh so delicious! No matter how peculiar it sounds, if you really think about it, these two spreads complement each other splendidly. Jelly is sweet and a little gooey while peanut butter is a bit coarse and grainy. Take two and two together and you get a special sandwich that screams perfect! This is, of course, just my opinion and you are still subject to yours.

Why Love This Spread

What I really want to talk about today is the flavorful charm of nut butter. Why do I call it that? Well, peanuts are just one variant. They’re a certain variant of the fruit (Yep, nuts are fruit so awesome right?) However, there are many other variants which can even be healthier alternatives to the spread, like Julies flavored nut butter. We’ve got almonds, pecans, pistachios, and whatnot. They all can be made into butter spreads too and they each have fun, distinct and interesting flavors. I just thought that this would be a great addition to your breakfast line up.

Nuts are a great source of healthy fats and protein. This is why they are incorporated into many plant-based diets. They’ve got a nice texture and taste so it’s easy to get them into dishes. If you’re following a vegan diet, you can also use this as an ingredient to supplement your protein requirements for the day. You can eat them as a snack, as a dessert (I like having a spoonsful of the spread after a nice dinner), and even use it as an ingredient on your main course. Some people even put in a few in their smoothies to pack their day with healthy protein.

How Much Is Too Much?

While nuts are certainly healthier than other sources of protein, I would still advise to eat it in moderation. For one, anything in excess is not really good for you and two, they do still contain saturated fats. A helping of 30 grams a day or roughly 20 regular-sized almonds should be a good ratio to consider. Also, while nuts are generally healthy, the way we eat them also matters. Boiling them is definitely the healthiest and most natural way to eat them but I know that many of you are fond of eating salt roasted peanuts. You have to be careful about these salty snacks because although they are healthy, the sodium that you ingest with it is not. I do agree that they’re tasty though. Plus, they’re pretty fun to eat when you’re watching a movie or reading a book. But as I said, always exercise moderation.

All in all, nuts are a great addition to your diet whether you have them as they are or as a spread. They can jam-pack your mornings with lots and lots of energy so be sure not to pass up on those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! Even if you don’t like them as much now, I’m confident you will fall in love with them soon!
