From the Farmer Launches Delivery Meal Kit Service
When From the Farmer launched in 2014, we fell in love with this concept. A concept that is based on local, sustainable food delivered to your doorstep. The only issue with the boxes full of fresh produce that would arrive weekly was the need for recipes. Though From the Farmer included recipes for you to try with the fresh produce they sent out every week, sometimes I would not have the extra ingredients at home. This is why their most recent venture is genius: they have joined the meal kit service revolution.
I like this idea for From the Farmer. They already have the fresh stock going for themselves and adding in easy prep meals is just another added bonus. This makes me want to revamp my membership and never think about the grocery store again. I was curious to see how these meals fare in comparison to the others out there so I jumped at the opportunity to try it out on a trial basis. Chicken and Mushroom Cheesy Enchiladas with Black Beans, Rice and Tortilla Chips made the first round in my test kitchen. Sloppy Joe Sliders with Creamy Mashed Russet Potatoes, and a Simple Green Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette made the second round in my test kitchen.
From the Farmer boasts that these meals take a total time of 30 minutes so I made sure to test this out also. Indeed 30-35 minutes was all it took for the meals. The pros were how fresh and unprocessed everything tasted. You can tell there are no added preservatives in many of the ingredients. The con was that some portions of the recipes did not seem like that had been in From the Farmers test kitchen. I cook rice all the time but I was determined to stick to the guidelines of the recipe that From the Farmer had provided. The rice, for example, was sticky after prepping according to the instructions.
The brand is on to something good with this new service. With prices ranging from $49-$95, the meal kit service is reasonable for what you get when thinking quality versus quantity. Looking for a way to lighten up the workweek load? Meal kit delivery services like From the Farmer are taking the lead in this race.
