Eggnog Your Way Through the District
Eggnog is our official drink of the season. When else is there going to be a plethora of the thick, creamy beverage that tastes even better with a shot of rum?? We welcome it with open arms and luckily the District restaurant scene is here to please. Check out the roundup of places fulfilling the seasonal craving …with a shot of rum, of course. Cheers!
- Magnolia’s on King: Spirits Curator Zachery Faden bottled three different takes on classic eggnog:bourbon, rum & rye and mezcal. Magnolia’s homemade eggnog is priced from $12 to $13, and is available throughout the month of December.
- Ambar: Egg-N-Grog, which is Hennessy Black, Ron Zacapa, Chairman’s Reserve Spiced Rum, Hidalgo Oloroso Sherry, spiced syrup, a whole egg and milk. The Egg-N-Grog is priced at $12 and is made to order. It is available now until Serbian Christmas, which is January 7, 2016.
- Lupo Verde: Lupo Eggnog is a combination of milk, brandy, Don Ciccio Nocino (walnut liquor), simple syrup, a dash of cinnamon tincture, an egg yolk, and garnished with cinnamon sugar powder. The Lupo
Eggnog is priced at $12, and is available now through December.
- Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar: El Coquito is a sweet, rich and creamy cocktail made from a combination of cinnamon, vanilla, coconut milk, coconut rum, and a toasted coconut rim. The El Coquito is priced at $8 and is available now until January 1, 2016.
- Bibiana: Classic Eggnog with a Twist, made from a combination of Pedro Ximénez, Benedictine and Buffalo Trace as part of the annual 25 Cocktails of Christmas promotion. The cocktail is priced at $12 and will be available December 10 through December 24, 2015.
- 1789 Restaurant: Classic Eggnog is a combo of whole milk, heavy cream, and egg yolks to dry ingredients: sugar, rum extract, nutmeg, almond extract, cloves, guar guam and Lambda Carrageenan. The mixture is then prepared sous-vide by placing it in a zip-close bag before being submerged into an immersion circulated water bath. The eggnog is cooked at 162 Fahrenheit for ten minutes and given a good stir before cooking for another ten minutes. The cocktail is served chilled and topped with freshly grated nutmeg. 1789’s Classic Eggnog, priced at $13, is available now until December 31, 2015.
