Special Delivery: Peapod Delivers Local Produce…And $100 For You.
Peapod by Giant has been around for years and I finally got a chance to try it. The wait was primarily associated with the guilt of laziness for wanting my groceries delivered to my door when my grocery store is within a one block radius. Another reason was associated with what it would cost for me to have a service like this delivered to my door. Peapod’s Local Farm Box peaked my interest and the time to try became now. Last week, I ordered my lamb and decided to trust that whatever was in the Local Farm Box would go along with my staple meat.
Peapods Local Farm Box is an effort by Giant to get local produce to grocers who use the service. The Local Farm Box is a multi-farm produce box that supports the Amish farming community in Lancaster, PA. Last week, my box, which was pretty inexpensive ($30), was filled with all kinds of seasonal veggies including lettuce, cucumbers and beets. The delivery was fast, the produce was as fresh as if I had went to the store that day and they really bring it directly to your door. Living in an apartment sometimes makes me concerned about having to do the heavy lifting from the lobby to my place but Peapod brings it up to your apartment door at your request.
This may need to be added to the expense account. If you have not tried Peapod, here is your lucky day. JKGF in collaboration with Peapod are giving away a $100 gift card to the reader (*Must be a D.C. resident) that “Likes” the Peapod Facebook page and comments on JKGF Facebook page the name of your favorite summer dish to cook. Giveaway entries will accepted until midnight on August 26, 2015 and one lucky winner will be randomly selected. Good luck!
P.S. Smartphone junkies? They have an app for that. Two features to look for include the Filter (find items based on needs that matter to you) and Order Genius (recommendation search engine that basically does the shopping for you).
