Celebrate Women’s History Month With Products By These Ladies Making Moves in Food & Beverage
March is Women’s History Month and to wrap up the celebration, JKGF sought out a couple of women making major moves in the food and beverage industry. The ladies of Truvée Wines and FOU-DRÉ vodka are taking over the local beverage scene with products that have garnered world wide appeal. Deets below:
Born from a truly inspiring history, Truvée Wines is popping up all around the DC dining scene. Derived from the French verb “to find”, Truvée was created after sisters’, Robin R. McBride and Andréa M. McBride, found each other after living on separate continents with 7,000 miles between them. The sisters grew up with the same father and different mothers, both thinking that they were only children. Robin was raised in Monterey, California and Andréa was born nine years later in Los Angeles and raised in New Zealand, her mother’s native country. Their father’s final wish was for his daughters to connect and the sisters united for the first time in 1999. Both sisters shared a love of winemaking resulting in Truvée.
The sisters have partnered with Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines and are selling the wines nationwide with an average retail price of $15.99 for a 750 ml bottle. JKGF had the opportunity to chat it up with the sisters (who are awesome) and taste the brand (Blackberry and Cherry remnants). The 2013 Red Blend would be our suggestion for introducing yourself to the brand. A smooth, light variation of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, among others make up the 2013 Red Blend.
FOU-DRÉ vodka is packaged up with a lightning effect. Literally, the bottle looks like a flash of lightning. The taste is not as shocking as its packaging with a subtle smooth transition on the palate. Best served alongside your favorite fruity beverage, FOU-DRÉ plays a supporting character role to your cocktail. Created by Chanel Turner, FOU-DRÉ is sold in over 30 stores in the Washington, DC area. Turner, a Bowie State alumni, created FOU-DRÉ with the true vodka drinker in mind, chasers should not be necessary to take down your favorite libation. FOU-DRÉ can be served solo or with company, but if you ask us…take it straight, no chaser. The fruity notes on the back of a sip will make you forget all about the Sex on the Beach you thought you wanted…
