I am obsessed with vegan cheese.  Being a dairy cheese lover has its challenges when one is realizing that they may be lactose intolerant.  I began to search for cheese alternatives when I realized whole milk was not my stomachs friend.  When Follow Your Heart vegan cheese reached out to JKGF to give it a try, I immediately responded with an excited “Yes!”.  Follow Your Heart has an entire line of vegan cheeses that include various flavors such as provolone, American slices, Garden Herb and Mozzarella.  We got to try them all.

The thing you have to remember when you are eating vegan cheese is that it is only an alternative to real cheese so looking for all of the things that cheese has in it will leave you dissatisfied.  Vegan cheese is lighter on the palate and does carry the same pungent aftertaste of cheese.  Follow Your Heart cheeses are surprisingly similar to the cheese taste and texture you would expect in regular cheese.  One product in particular, the American slice, is almost an exact replica of the American dairy cheese products except it has a bit of a pasty aftertaste.  That pasty after effect is present in many vegan cheeses and one has to except this if they want to give up the real thing for the alternative.  Follow Your Heart melts similar to regular cheese and works perfect when you need that extra hint of cheese in dishes such as scrambled eggs and/or smashed cauliflower.

I miss regular cheese.  I really do.  My body is asking for a change, however, and as the old saying goes, my body wants me to Follow Your Heart on this one.  Vegan cheese it is for the time being…
