Etiquette Tuesday: Gossip.
Etiquette Tuesday returns with a tip about gossip. Such an ugly thing to do but much of the world revolves around the sometimes true and false shady conversations. Recently I got wind of someone who shared a bit of gossip about me in the food industry. As with all of the topics on this site, this one relates to food so I figured I would share my tips on it. Is this not what Etiquette Tuesday is for?? Let me start by saying I do not condone gossip but if you choose to do it, especially in such a small industry, you should try to keep it to a close-knit circle that you trust not to reveal your loose lips.
In addition, to the fact that gossip is hurtful and can be avoided by simply keeping your mouth shut or expressing your views to your therapist instead of the entire food industry, it reflects poorly on a person’s character. I have seen some of the most beautiful people turn ugly once they open up their mouths about someone as close as their best friend and I have to wonder “If you are saying this about them, I wonder what you say about me as soon as I turn my back”. Having character is a huge part of defining who a person truly is and gossip depletes the value of a person’s character the same way a cheater and a liar do in a relationship. Try keeping your lips shut. After all, loose lips sink ships…
