Where I’m Eating: Boss Shepherd’s
As the old saying goes “The second times the charm”. That is exactly what happened the last time I visited Boss Shepherd’s in Penn Quarter. On my first visit, I left feeling disappointed and confused: How could a menu boasting so many great dishes have no way of proving it? The fried chicken lacked any the flavor I was expecting, the Albacore Tuna salad was soaked in dressing and the gnocchi left me with a salt headache. This had to be a case of the new restaurant blues so I was open to trying it for a second round to make sure my restaurant with the dream menu was only working out the kinks in the system.
The kinks were worked out on my second visit *happy dance*. The Trout was cooked to perfection with just enough lemon to let you know it was there and the grits were creamy without sliding into soupy zone. The crab cake will be my standing starter from now on where it avoids the classic mistake of over compensating with breads and mayo. Having to take a couple of trips to Boss Shepherd’s was most pleasant because of the restaurant starter: the Pimento Cheese and Crackers. I LOVE pimento cheese so this was more than a pleasant surprise on my first visit.
Returning to Boss Shepherd’s is a none issue at this point. The new question is what will I order next on this menu of bliss??
