Wines from Burgenland
‘Tis the season to drink good wine. Fine, Austrian wine to be exact. JKGF has not traveled to Europe in what feels like forever and even longer since we sat on Sigmund Freud’s couch. For these reasons and many more, we are oh so grateful for Wein Burgenland. We recently had the opportunity to try wine from the Burgenland region of Austria and it brought back great memories. Here are the five that we fell in love with during the tasting:
- Neuburger 2020: Really balanced, not too fruity. No water with alcohol here!
- Chardonnay Albatros 2019: Hint of butterscotch and comparable to the Australian version of this wine.
- St. Laurent 2017: Close cousin of Pinot Noir, big and bold.
- Sankt Laurent vom Stein 2015: Aged 20 months in French oak. Taste notes of blackberries, touch of licorice and cherry, nice and light.
- Eisenberg DAC Reserve Ried Szapary Blaufränkisch 2017: Big shouldered wine and very refreshing.
*Honorable mention Trockenbeerenauslese N*6 Grande Cuvée 2017: This throwback from the 1980’s used to be common at the dinner party and is denser than other sweet wine.
