Quick, Fast, Easy, Healthy. And Affordable.

Quick, fast, easy.  Not the words closely associated with healthy takeout but Modern Market is changing things.  I recently visited the newbie to the D.C. #lunchflow and found all the above elements present:  quick, fast, easy and healthy.  The restaurant boasts “making food from scratch”, avoiding “added sugar and bad fats, and through attention to sourcing, they rule out chemicals and dangerous ingredients no one can pronounce”.  This is what good lunch is made of!

I’ll spare you the details of what I got (salad, soup, water) but I will tell you how the Broccoli Cheddar soup was a long cry from the Velveeta infused soups I have had in the past at places that claim to have “fresh” ingredients.  Not to knock Velveeta but there is nothing like knowing your cheese does not come out of a box.  Modern Market’s locally vetted sources include FreeBird Chicken (PA), Atlas Brew Works, Lyon Bakery, Phillips Mushroom Farms (PA), Greater Tater (NY) and Craft Kombucha among others. Since clean eating is the focus, you cannot go wrong with whatever you try.  Try everything.  With a sustainable menu like this, you could only improve your diet, not ruin it.  Who’s down for lunch this week?!
