There’s a Log Cabin in City Center. And it has a happy hour.
BOE has changed the looks of things from the sleek, sexy all white décor that used to take up the space at 777 9th Street, NW. This, however, still is the sexiest log cabin décor I have ever layed eyes on. Far from thinking smores when I enter the place, the menu does nothing to dispute my thoughts that there is anything rustic about this place. The menu does a good job of presenting approachable fare as art on a plate.
The grilled octopus is a must try where it is cooked to perfection, none of that rubbery stuff on your fork, pure tender bites in between the squid ink and snow pea salad. Usually not a fan of mac & cheese balls, BOE’s crispy mac & cheese bites bring out the best in the dish especially when paired with the truffle chive aioli. The real star of the show at BOE are the drink selections. The names alone are turn on’s with Porn Star being my favorite. Garnished with a dollar bill, the vanilla vodka based cocktail is paired with passion fruit and sparkling wine to round out the drink. Janet Jacme would be proud. Just like its name suggests too, you will not need much after this to get you going, two to three max.
It was bitter sweet to revisit a place where I had once attended so many happy hours in a more cosmopolitan setting but I welcome the more relaxed fit at BOE. With Porn Star’s and art on plates, they will not have a problem keeping and growing their clientele.
