Don’t Skip This Dish: Peanut Butter and Jelly BBQ Wings
The thought of ordering wings on any given day of the week does not excite my senses. The District has a plethora of places adding lemon pepper and Old Bay to change up the game but these have even become a bore. Florida Avenue’s newest beer garden, TAKODA, however, has awoken my senses and newfound love of chicken wings. Peanut butter and jelly are the components and I am more excited about this than when I had this cheap delicacy as a kid between two slices of bread. I thought I would hate these wings, but from the first bite to the last, the creamy combination of peanut butter notes and sweet berry jam smothered on crispy fried wings stayed consistent. This historical combination is a match made on everything from bread to now wings.
Not feeling wings? You have to at least go for dessert. The fried red velvet Oreo’s are the runner up in this competition and for good reason: they.are.amazing. Melt in your mouth (*cliché…I know, but…they really do) deep fried batches of red velvet cake with a creamed cheese filling and icing dipping sauce on the side make this dish a must-try. Thank me later.
