Happy Hour @ Bayou Bakery (Capitol Hill Edition)
When the temperatures rise in D.C., you can barely find any space to walk on the sidewalks. The shell shock of winter always makes Washingtonians appreciate the warmer days, which is why al fresco dining is so popular in this area. JKGF discovered a new hideout (well not for long), that offers plenty o’ patio space and beignets to go along with that people watching. Bayou Bakery has opened it’s sister location (first location in Arlington, VA) on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE inside the historic Carriage House on the grounds of the Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital. Refurbished only to the point of implementing modern kitchen utilities, the rustic interior keeps the atmosphere casual. The “Garden District” outdoor patio space is perhaps the most attractive part of the space where it seats 40 under umbrella-shaded tables.
What to sip and bite? The BBQ Pork Rinds will make you rethink your favorite chips with their light weight, crisp fluffy barbecued crunch. Beignets are a given. If bacon makes you smile, you should consider the Belly of the Day, you will find a healthy serving of the other white meat here.
Happy hour, anyone?
