Introducing Our Newest Section: Johnna Knows Good Style (!!!)
Today kicks off the first installation of a new section entitled “Johnna Knows Good Style”, which joins the Johnna Knows Good Food family. Food and fashion run hand-in-hand in my life. I look forward to what will decorate my body each day as much as what is going to decorate my plate. With an apron line in the works, hair styles that change constantly and a closet full of ideas to share, JKGStyle was created. We hope you enjoy the journey as much as we are looking forward to it. Our inaugural post begins with a stylist we are feeling in the DC area, Kennisha Ford of Kenni Colours.
Damaged ends, terrible roots and a shapeless mane led me to Kenni Ford’s chair. Tucked neatly away in a shop that used to be the home of a spa, Kenni’s station was just what I needed. The shampoo bowl, hair dryer and styling chair were all in one room making it easy for me to relax knowing that I had a private space to get my hair treated. Going in I had an auburn meets black roots coif with hopes that I would leave with pitch black everything. Kenni talked me into changing it up a bit by adding a splash of color to the front.
After a few swift movements with the shears, 30 minutes under the dryer and some good conversation about food (Kenni is a foodie!), I looked like a human again. Black mane with bold blond highlights to add just a pop of color. Professional, on time (so necessary to highlight this when it comes to DC area hair stylist) and easy to work with, Kenni is a hidden gem in the District. Though her speciality is coloring, we had an in-depth conversation about sew-ins and extensions, which she is no stranger to in her profession. The hunt for a good stylist in the District is like searching for a $100 on the street, you will be lucky if you find it. Looks like my lucky day arrived at Kenni Colours.
