Dishes We Love: La Tomate Caffe

[ 0 ] August 21, 2014 |

At the end of last month, the awesome family behind La Tomate in Dupont Circle opened a caffe next door to their already well-known bistro (one of the many surprises that they plan to implement between now and the end of next year). The atmosphere is quaint and understated yet beautiful with natural lighting, large tiled floors, and circular marble tables.

I had the pleasure of attending a sneak peek that provided guests with a luxurious spread of food including 3 kinds of mozzarella cheese with various accompaniments,  Tramezzini with a parma prosciutto spread, and Erbazzone which was a puff pastry with onions, swiss chard, eggs, Parmesan cheese, and pancetta. While I’ve yet to check out the bistro, I fell head over heels in love with the new addition. What sealed the deal for me is that they delicately placed a plate holding not one but three desserts in the middle of the table that I sat at. Seeing as though there were only three of us there at the table, you can already imagine how that went. The plate turned and turned in each direction until we finished all three.

Both the chocolate cake and ricotta cheese cake were decadent, soft, and gluten-free. The third dessert was a puff pastry with strawberries and caramel cream. Yum right? I can’t wait to go back and visit the bistro, do a compare/contrast/eat/love type thing, maybe try out the outdoor seating while the weather’s still beautiful.
