#2014 Food Trends
Last year, I listed trends that would take over in 2013. They came, they saw, they conquered and this year, I came up with five trends that will buzz rampid around the District and abroad.
1. Korean Food everywhere. Korean cuisine has not received its due hype in the District and instead of piling more ramen shops in the neighborhood, I see the area taking a closer look at cuisines such as Korean BBQ. (*Catch me making Korean BBQ above)
2. Local, Local, Local. If ain’t local, it ain’t cool. That’s the motto buzzing around these parts as every chef and their mother looks to use local farms, farmers and producers for their ingredients.
3. Anything with noodles. DC is loving the noodle shops that are popping up in every neighborhood. With Daikaya, Toki and Pho Shops from 14th street to Alexandria not hurting for business, these affordable palate pleasing venues will stay packed with guests in 2014.
4. Clean Eating. Besides calorie counts being added to nearly everything, ingredients are being cleaned up and being replaced with all-natural ingredients. Guests no longer have to play the guessing game of what they are putting in their bodies, it looks like it will be explicitly laid out for you.
5. More small plates. Just like those high-heeled sneakers I saw in Saks today, this is a trend I wish to see retire. Unfortunately, the rest of society seems to love it and the trend looks like it will practically take over in 2014. Whatever happened to a full plate of food, for one person?? I miss those times.
