Frederick Restaurant Week
Today begins Frederick Restaurant Week so I decided to do something I almost never do: get in the car and drive out over 40 minutes to taste what was on the menu. Later this week, I will have the pleasure of dining and chatting it up with Chef Brian Voltaggio, of Volt in Frederick, but I thought some alone time on this Monday afternoon would be nice to get a feel for the place. GM Northeast Motors also thought it was time for me to take a trip up to Frederick and allowed me to coast up 270 in their GM Cruze for Frederick Restaurant Week. Trading in the the big body I’m used to driving gave me a little hesitation but I wanted to see what else was truly out there, car and food wise.
The fact that I have spent part of my life living the country lifestyle, Frederick immediately took me back to the country roads I had traveled in my life. Slower driving, mountain views and small country streets is the scenary in Frederick. I adore places like this only because they almost force you to slow down and take in the fresh air from the fast paced city slicker life I’m accustomed to living. That’s exactly what I did after I parked in front of Quynn’s Attic to try out their $15 2-course Restaurant Week menu.
Simplicity is what I can say about the menu at Quynn’s: Caesar Salad, bolognese rigatoni and Chicken sandwiches were the highlight of the lunch menu with not much creativity to any of the dishes. The caesar was a caesar but the rigatoni had a nice fresh tomato bite that with a pinch of fresh hot pepper would have been the perfect afternoon lunch. The view from Quynn’s, however, more than made up for the lack of spice because my eyes were feasting on a quiet peaceful street just 40 minutes outside of the bustling streets of D.C., who knew??
If you have never been to Frederick, this would be an excellent week to make a trip up 270. With Restaurant Week deals and the peacefulness that is sometimes necessary from the District, you would have the rejuvenation you need to return to the cubicle life. Initially mentally exhausted at the idea of heading outside the city twice in one week to travel over 30 miles, now I find myself tingling inside with excitement: 1. Chef Brian Voltaggio is in my near future and 2. after the week I’ve had, a little R&R in the DMV’s version of the countryside never hurt anyone…
