Etiquette Tuesday: The Jefferson Tea
Before I set out on my two vacation, I had the pleasure of visiting The Jefferson Hotel. Writing an Etiquette post every Tuesday has made me more aware of my dining etiquette and entering The Jefferson took this heightened sensitivity to a new level. The Jefferson is a veteran in the DC accommodation world. Rooms that are triple the size of my apartment and perfectly pinched pillows, the place exudes classic style and elegance. It also knows a thing or two about afternoon tea, which is the reason I was present.
I love learning new etiquette tips and refreshing my memory on things forgotten which is why I was pleased to receive a brief run down of the important afternoon tips to keep in mind. Let me share a few:
Milk and lemon must never be added to the same cup, since citrus instantly spoils the milk.
A fork is not used to eat a scone. Please, no dipping!
Today, tea cups have handles, and it is now considered improper to hold your cup with your pinkie finger extended.
Who knew?! This year I hope to participate in more tea sessions where my tea time is often overshadowed by my coffee time. Tea for two?
