Etiquette Tuesday: Thanks!

There are those occasions where a simple thank you is appropriate but what about those occasions where a formal notice should be sent out?  I think alot of people are confused on where it is appropriate to send out the formal “Thank you” note versus a simple thank you as your guests exit the premises.  Now I have been to my share of weddings, graduation parties and baby showers and have invested a nice fortune in providing the gift.  I, personally, do not care about the gratitude at the end because I did it from the heart but I do care about how I am percieved when I am on the recieving end.

I have been blessed with awesome presents during my times of celebration and immediately shoot out the stamped, addressed envelope expressing my sincere gratitude.  This Etiquette Tuesday, I suggest to ALL the importance of the “Thank You” note.  Though it is understood that gifts are given from the heart, it is just a kind gesture to show that you were appreciative of the kindness presented to you.  This is not to say that people should absolutely hold this against you if you do not send out the formalized thank you note but it is just one of those things in life: a nice thing to do.

Hosting a small dinner party where guests bring a dish is not as much of a priority on the formal thank you note trail but hosting a wedding or a graduation party where the registry collected $100+ gifts calls for immediate action.  Gratitude is such a grand gesture and as we embark on the holiday that is all about giving thanks, let us remember a quick note can rest on a memory for a lifetime.
