Etiquette Tuesday: Flossy
Floss picks are an awesome invention. I’ll preface my Etiquette tip with that disclaimer. Floss picks are not, however, an awesome invention that should be used at the dinner table. While out at brunch with a friend this past weekend, she posed the question to me on how to tell someone politely not to use their floss pick out in public. It’s always hard for me to give advice on how to address someone on the obvious “nots” of dining out. I told her to just be careful where she invited her friend because with the right crowd, someone will definitely check her on this and things could get ugly.
Now I am not one to care much about what people think of me unless I’m doing something gross or disrespectful. Flossing at the table is gross. Enough said. If I am ever flossing my teeth at the table, I would expect that someone would give me a comment or look of disgust. Remember people, there is always a bathroom to do these things and if there is not one would it honestly hurt you to just wait a few more moments until you get to one?? The positive part of this is that you do want to take the time for dental hygiene (*at whatever cost…) but this week, I encourage you to not do it at the dinner table.

I would never floss at a dinner table, but I do floss in the bedroom and my husband get so mad about it. He banishes me to the bathroom every time. But we keep our floss picks in his closet, so I go in there to grab one and take care of my teeth while I’m just standing right there.
LoL! That is totally understandable because you are in private and the only person who would be grossed out is your husband. It’s the people who think everyone sitting in Masa 14, or some other public venue, is their husband and can’t see them flossing, smh….
Eeewhhh! My teeth are a trap for anything small and green so it is guaranteed that I will have something in my teeth before dinner is over. I gently and discreetly swish water in my mouth.
Smart! Never thought about that, I usually just leave for a few minutes…but that will be my new trick, Thanks!
