826DC is hosting a fundraiser this Thursday, September 15, 2011 @ The Museum of Unnatural History. 826DC is the newest chapter of the nationally-recognized 826 National, a nonprofit started by writer Dave Eggers to help kids and teachers with their writing skills.  The fundraiser event will feature wine tasting courtesy of Cork Market’s wine experts and light fare.  Tickets are $45 and you can find more info here. Wine for a good cause sounds like a plan.

Vintage Crystal: A Taste of Wine and Jazz is this Sunday, September 18, 2011.  The wine festival will feature 30 wines from the cellar of Jaleo (*Spainish and South American varieties) alongside tapas from 20 local restaurants such as Kora, Portofino and Jaleo.  To set the mood, there will be live Latin jazz music from Trio Caliente and Salsa dancing lessons from the Salsa Room.

Dine Out for a Cause

Signature Chefs Auction has sent out official save the dates for November 16, 2011.  This night brings together the areas top chefs, bartenders and wineries to benefit March of Dimes. Look forward to appearances by Hank’s Oyster Bar, Bastille and Taberna del Alabardero.

Michel by Michel Richard in Tysons Corner has named the Make a Wish Foundation as the recipient of their monthly Dinner with Benefits program.  Each Tuesday and Wednesday Michel supports a worthy nonprofit organization with their nightly $60 three-course prix fixe dinner menu.  For two nights a week, five percent of the proceeds from every Dinner with Benefits meal will be donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic beginning Wednesday September 7, when Michel reopens from summer holiday.

Johnna French is a Harlem NY native with deep roots in Panama, Washington, DC and North Carolina. All four places have heavily influenced her life and the foods she loves today. After graduating Howard University School of Law and beginning her life as a young professional in the city she was led to start Johnna Knows Good Food in November 2007 to keep family, friends and colleagues updated on where to go and what to eat while dining in the nation’s capitol. French, who still practices law, leads a team of three writers to cover the ever expanding Washington, DC food scene. During the 2016-2017 football season, Johnna aired on Comcast Sports Mid-Atlantic (CSN) show, Redskins Life, as the weekly tailgate host. Johnna is currently a regular contributor to the FOX Baltimore Weekend morning show.
