GOOD STUFF
Remember your old children’s books? Berenstain Bears? Care Bears? Well imagine the likes of Jose Andres and Spike Mendelsohn drafting one of these oldies but goodies and there you have Counter Culture. Counter Culture, created by Lifting Voices, is a coffee-table book that shares 10 kids’ food histories in words and images. Books are wonderful but books cost money and Counter Culture needs $5,000 by April 29 for publication. Pledge any amount here but FYI: Any person that donates $25 will receive a FREE burger from Good Stuff Eatery. Yum and more yum to donating to such a fun and worthy cause…story-time, anyone?
OPENINGS
Rockville gets a new and improved Whole Foods. I can never get enough Whole Foods, honestly I wish they would let me move in and set up a pallet somewhere between the cheese and wine aisle…I digress. Anywho, the famous market has opened at 11355 Woodglen Drive with the area’s first cooking-dedicated department. This is the part I am most excited about in the new store. Besides the typical cooking demo’s the new cooking dept. will have butcher block work-spaces, a team of Whole Foods experts with in-depth culinary knowledge, cookbooks and touch screen technology to help shoppers find ingredients and ideas to cook seasonal menus. Let’s hope this trend spreads fast…just as fast as the DC cupcake craze…
Catch Me If You Can. Ok, the District is full of true food connoisseurs so it’s no surprise that when a renowned Chef like Chef RJ Cooper decides to open a restaurant here you should probably think about getting first dibs on it before reservations become almost impossible. For those of us that are really anxious the following will be the perfect addition to this Spring weather: Chef Cooper will preview his Rogue 24 menu at a pop up space in NYC from April 27-May 8. Chef Cooper will be the first in a series of chefs to showcase his menu at Limited Time Only (LTO), formerly Broadway East, in New York’s Lower East Side (*171 East Broadway, NY, NY 10002). Chef Cooper and a small team, including Pastry Chef Chris Ford and Mixologist Gina Chersevani, will offer a 16-course progression menu and a 24-course journey menu nightly. Make reservations here.
Cities Restaurant and Lounge opens. The restaurant that will take your mouth on a true culinary journey with cuisines from Athens, China and Cuba featured on the menu. The restaurant takes up the space at 919 19th street, NW and I was able to snag a couple of pics of the space above.
