Black History Month Spotlight: Chef Jeff

Today marks the beginning of Black History Month which pays tribute to the history and culture associated with the African Diaspora. In homage to the month, I wanted to spotlight Chef Jeff Henderson, named the first African American Chef de Cuisine at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and executive chef at Café Bellagio. Chef Henderson, hosted The Chef Jeff Project, a docu-reality TV series, and is the author of the New York Times bestseller Cooked and Chef Jeff Cooks. Chef Henderson comes to the District tomorrow, February 2, 2011, to debut his latest cookbook, America I Am Pass It Down Cookbook. Pass It Down features over 130 recipes from people all over the country who have passed down their memories and recipes.

Johnna French is a Harlem NY native with deep roots in Panama, Washington, DC and North Carolina. All four places have heavily influenced her life and the foods she loves today. After graduating Howard University School of Law and beginning her life as a young professional in the city she was led to start Johnna Knows Good Food in November 2007 to keep family, friends and colleagues updated on where to go and what to eat while dining in the nation’s capitol. French, who still practices law, leads a team of three writers to cover the ever expanding Washington, DC food scene. French has been featured in print and television, appearing in Washingtonian Magazine and is a regular contributor to various local TV affiliates including WUSA 9, FOX 5 DC and WJLA (ABC Affiliate) News Channel 8. During the 2016-2017 football season, Johnna aired on Comcast Sports Mid-Atlantic (CSN) show, Redskins Life, as the weekly tailgate host. Rescue at Pine Ridge is the story of the rescue of the famed 7th Cavalry by the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers. The 7th got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn’t for the 9th Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. This story is about, brutality, compassion, reprisal, bravery, heroism and gallantry.
