Food.Fun.Stuff: Dinner in a Toilet
Would you eat out of a toilet bowl?? Sounds gross and disgusting, but this is the question that has been popping up all around China with the openings of Modern China. Modern China is a popular Taiwanese restaurant that has sprung up all over China and other parts of Asia. The concept around the restaurant is the toilet. Food is served in a toilet, drinks are served in a urinal and dessert is served in a dish shaped like a squat toilet (*which is largely the way public toilets are shaped in China). A manager at Modern China says “It is supposed to be a shock and confusion to the senses” (*You got that right…) Despite the grossness of its name, the facilities are said to be very clean and things are done in a tasteful manner. Your food is served in a mini (clean;-) toilet bowl and you sip out of your own plastic urinal which is also a souvenir for visitors. The food is far from anything that smells or tastes like the toilet…choices range from pasta to a Mongolian hot pot.
The names of the items in the restaurant is what you really have to get over to enjoy a good meal here especially with desserts named “diarrhea with dried droppings” (chocolate ice cream) and “bloody poop” (strawberry ice cream). Interesting concept…What are your thoughts??

Haahaa, that is pretty disturbing. This reminds me of the pic my cousin took when she went to this place. Not sure I can really eat off a “mini” toilet though.
